Which local hot dog is best for grilling? We did a blind taste test

.............................. from the D&C .........................

To replicate a Memorial Day cookout, we had a dad cook red hots over a charcoal fire. The results surprised us.

Western New Yorkers have strong opinions about their hot dogs. Case in point: last year, the New York Times did a taste test of national hot dog brands, limiting its scope to all-beef hot dogs. When the winners were published, people in the Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo area chided the publication on social media for excluding western New York hot dogs from the mix. That got us thinking about local hot dogs. Sahlen's and Hofmann are clearly making inroads into the Rochester area. How do those brands compare to the hometown favorite, Zweigle's? How would those regional brands hold up against the national brands? And what about the smaller butchers in town? Were their hot dogs worth trying? We decided to have a taste test of our own.
