Trimmed 4 feet of our privet hedge - great privacy - and over 50 feet long. It grows 3-6 feet annually but with all the rain we had it just shot up. Did a lot of yard work this early am. Then off to Hornings to check out plants and flowers. Took the Xterra out today and it ran wonderful. I love driving this type of vehicle and feeling that my a** is not riding on the pavement, like it does with the Hyundai. Plus with my age and arthritis it's so much nicer and easier to enter the vehicle. Also stopped at Tomion's. Nice day for a ride.

Got some early morning work done in back yard. Catching up from last year. Almost there if I can get 5 straight days of no rain. Got a number of trees we plan to trim back and cut. In 6 weeks back in surgery and this summer's outside work will then be over.

Yesterday our Grandson was 1 year old and tomorrow is his 1st birthday party here.

Went to Palmer's to p ikc up some NY Strips - $4.99l. Bought a huge box of them. Can't beat the price and it's black angus meat. Nice cuts at 8 oz with beautiful marbling great for the grill. Also picked up some 13-15 to a lb wild Gulf Shrimp for $24 for 2 lbs. These also are great for kebobs on grill. If it ever stops raining.

Got gas while in Rochester area for $2.03 gallon - filled up the Hyundai. Had 3 lines left and it took $18.15 to fill it to the brim. Gas up there was $2.11 - $2.13.

Planning on cooking trout on grill, depending on whether it will continue to intermittently keep raining.

Off to do some banking this morning and then home to smoke a pork brisket for a pulled pork dinner with cole slaw and corn on the cob.

Cut our garlic scapes this early am. Had to stop once due to this years normal daily rainfall. Then went back out, and just got done a few moments prior to the big rain. We use garlic scapes in much of our cooking recipes here throughout the year. Many others due as well. You can find therm being sold at farmers markets. They add a great garlic flavor to sauces, soups, stews and a host of other foods. They are free if you grow garlic, easy to cut and we freeze them IQF.

Our tomatoes, peppers, our berries are all doing quite well. Our herbal garden is doing well also. WE have been drying our herbs for some time now. We grow all the herbs we use in our cooking recipes here and they are non-GMO from seeds from Italy (which is illegal to have GMO foods). I've reduced our garden a lot this year due to upcoming surgery in August, and my wife's illness. I do have many plants growing in large planters that we will replant in the fall inside our house facing the south/southwest, and have fresh herbs for cooking.

We need to create more raised gardens but this will not happen (due to this rainy spring/summer) until mid- October/early November.) I then will be fully recuperated from surgery and weather will be far easier for me to work outside (nice and cool hopefully without rain). We need raised gardens that have a form over them encapsulated with fencing which can be lifted to weed and pick veggies. We currently have 7 deer and newly arrived 3 fawns that frequent our yards. Pretty good size deer and I walked right out to one who was in my garden and we were feet apart and he showed no fear. He finally decided to head towards Bristol Court area lowland.

Cut suckers from red raspberry, black raspberry, and blackberry bushes. This with the rains is never ending. We have an abundance of raspberries this year but our black raspberries are many but worse than last years drought due to too much rain an too many GRAY LADIES. The reds which do not have a deep root system truly enjoy the heavy rains. On hands and knees pulling weed and other things growing between them. Out tomato plants are quite large with many blossoms on them and so last night we had to protect them further from the deer who frequent our garden - they love non-GMO food. Cleared out the herb garden, and things truly are beginning to look true. I need another 7 days of no rains, and then it can rain all its wants . I have a large ash, Hawthorne's, and Lilacs that are going to be taken down. The privet hedge has grown another foot from the rains, and soon will need to be trimmed again.Had our first bonfire yesterday. Have much wood to burn this summer, especially since last years was a drought and we did none. Lots of Black Walnut logs to burn.
