Best use of taxes in Canandaigua

Postby Mr. Natural » Tue Jan 01, 2013 7:26 pm

Everyone in Canandaigua hates all the taxes we have here.

Unless it's a tax for some thing you have a bee in your bonnet over and insist that everyone wants even though you don't know what you're talking about.

So what taxes did you love this year?

The taxes spent for the enclosure of the Farmer's market. Used one day a week for three or four months a year. Money well spent.

Believe the official minon covered parking space was built with grant money, and a gift from market group. They had limited funds so the DPW built the structure for the BID.

Grant money and DPW labor are paid for by the taxpayer.

You are right. This from a Messenger article:

........a state grant of $35,000, $10,000 in a cash donation from the city, $1,000 from the Ontario County Farm Bureau, and $1,000 from market fund-raising.

The city's public works crew will build it and put in electrical, water, and sewer service. Those in-kind services will save about $28,000......

So it cost the City taxpayer at least $38,000 directly, plus the grant money that came from our state taxes and in return the Farmers Market raised $1,000!
