All, here's the email that I sent the "fund raisers" last Friday:

Today I went to the aforementioned businesses.

Wegmans - policy is that they only contribute to groups that are incorporated with a 501C

BigLots - spoke to the manager, Becky. She will need a Minions letterhead before she can proceed

Forever Windows - Spoke to Dan and he will need an "invoice" for the accountants for his donation.

I've got a 2 year old DIY project and a Dr.'s appt waiting for me next week but I'll work on this as time permits. Keep me informed.

A FLACE account could establish a 501(c)(3) status, but the principal would not be available for use. A few hundred dollars really is not big enough. We don't have the critical mass or people for a 501(c)(3).

Thanks for your work, TomsDad!

Sweet. We always buy some of the clothing at JCPenney's, so a discount will definitely help!

Oh! And to follow up, all of the members of the second family need sheets. So I was correct in thinking we need to purchase 1 set of queen sheets, and 3 sets of twin sheets. Our budget is looking good - should be able to cover them all. Thanks for being so generous!

Let's get going on donations for the 3rd family now!

Please remember that even if you give out letter head etc., we are NOT a not for profit agency and no one or business can take their donation to us as a write off on their taxes. Giving to our project is truly a gift!

Just a reminder, since the announcement got buried in this thread:

Group meeting & drop-off date at Phoenix Coffee on Saturday, November 21. 10 til noon.

All minions invited to attend! Stop by to drop off your donation and stay to have some coffee and chat. We can discuss where we're at with fundraising efforts and family selection then too.

Hope to see you all there!

Sue and I are going to Build-A-Bear afterward to purchase a stuffed animal for the little girl in Family #1.

We have info on the 3rd family!

Single mother with a 10-year-old daughter.

The little girl has asked for a Nintendo DS with the Cooking mama game or Mario Party. Webkinz, spinning paint??, create your own pillow and arts and crafts stuff. She is a size 12 girls.

The mom needs towels, picture frames, king sized sheets and comforter, toaster, silverware.

They just moved into their own place and don't have much.

I think the spinning paint is a device that spins a rectangular piece of cardboard (construction paper) and you add colors in as the board spins. Might be called Spin Art.

Spin art is an art form that primarily uses paint, a canvas and a spinning platform. It is primarily used to entertain and expose children to the process of art creation, although it can be enjoyed by people of all ages.

To create spin art, an artist initially decorates or drips paint onto a canvas. The canvas can be anything; however, the most common form of canvas is a small rectangular piece of cardboard. Before the paint on the canvas dries, the artist secures the canvas to a platform that can be rotated at high speed. Once the canvas is secure, the artist can then begin spinning the canvas. Most spinning platforms are electrical or battery operated, with more elaborate platforms enabling the artist to vary the rotational speed.

As the canvas rotates, centrifugal forces draw the wet paint outwards, creating intricate designs. The artist can drip more paint onto the canvas while it is spinning, thus layering paint on top of each other, creating different effects. Using different colors, a skilled spin artist can blend colors together into subtle designs. At any point during this process, the artist can stop the spinning platform to view the canvas. Since the canvas is usually rotating at a high rate of speed, it is difficult if not impossible to view the image on the canvas until the platform has stopped spinning, thus creating a sense of surprise and uncertainty during the creation process.

Not to be confused with the "Bed Spins" in which everything in the room looks like spin art (or so I'm told).
